Parent Guide

After you register for resident camp:

  1. You should receive an email confirmation.
  2. The confirmation email will prompt you to log back in to your account and fill out the Health History Form and Authorized Pick Up List.
  3. Read the information below.

Drop off and Pick up

1. Camp DaKaNi is located at 3309 E. Hefner Rd., just west of I-35.

2. Enter GATE #1 on the north side of Hefner Rd.  It is the white gate.

3. Turn right and follow the gravel road in between the two cabins.  Camp staff will be there to assist.

Please fill out the Authorized Grown-Ups form online before your child attends camp. Be sure to include yourself, spouse, and any other adults that may pick up your child this week. You may update this list at any time.

For the safety of our campers, we will check photo ID’s before camper is released. Campers WILL NOT be released to individuals who do not have a photo ID AND are not listed on the Authorized Grown-Up List.


Meals are prepared by Camp DaKaNi staff who are trained in food safety. Camp DaKaNi has two Certified Food Safety Managers on site. Meals are balanced and follow the Summer Food Service Program healthy eating guidelines. Campers are served healthy options (whole grains, lean meats, low-fat dairy, and fresh fruit and vegetables) at all meals.

Canteen: Canteen is a mid-afternoon snack served at camp.

Rest Period

In accordance to the American Camping Association, resident camps should have a 30 minute rest period every day. Campers will be asked to stay in their tents for that period of time.

General Health Information

Camp DaKaNi is licensed annually by the Oklahoma City-County Health Department and the Fire Department. Every effort is made to ensure your child’s safety while at camp. The Directors are trained annually in Red Cross First Aid & CPR.

Phone contact with parents or guardians is established in an emergency. Each person's health form contains contact information, as well as designates alternate contacts if the parents/guardians cannot be reached. This process is initiated by the Director and/or the lead health-care provider but can be delegated to an appropriate staff member. Since the program has no way of determining what each person considers an emergency, the general camp practice is to contact parents when there is concern about a person's health and/or when a situation is not progressing as expected. If a staff member is unable to contact parent or guardian, alternative emergency contacts will be called. If voicemail is available, a message will be left. All contact, successful and unsuccessful, is documented on the individual's health form.

Medication Policy

All medications must be stored in their original containers or clearly labeled with the pharmacy Rx label if it is a prescription. Check the medications in with the Camp Staff on Monday. It will be the parent’s responsibility to pick up medication on Friday. Campers are not allowed to keep their medications unless there is written permission from the doctor and the parents.

All medications must be listed on the Camper Health Form.

  • Bathing suit for water games (For girls, this will be worn under shirt and shorts. For boys, this will be worn with a t-shirt)

Do not bring: Cell phones, tablets, ipods, weapons, alcohol, tobacco, or drugs. 


At Camp Fire Heart of Oklahoma we strive to provide a comfortable and welcoming environment. However, we understand that homesickness may occur. We believe the best way to fight homesickness is to encourage campers to be engaged in activities with their peers. Phone calls and visitors are highly discouraged during summer camp. Discipline and Behavior Information

Rules of camp and instructions from staff are expected to be followed by all campers. Repeated disruptive and/or disrespectful behavior towards other campers or staff will not be tolerated. If a child is dismissed from camp for disruptive behavior, it is likely that the child will be asked not to return.

Intruder Policy

Safety is Camp DaKaNi’s top priority. Camp DaKaNi Staff are trained in the camp intruder procedure. All efforts are made throughout the day to insure that camp is secure and campers are safe.

Severe Weather Information

Camp will still take place on rainy or stormy days. Camp DaKaNi has several buildings and covered shelters where campers can continue to participate in group activities until the weather clears. If severe weather takes place overnight, campers will be assigned indoor sleeping quarters. 

Groups have assigned shelter areas in case of tornado or floods. All camp staff is trained on emergency weather procedures. Camp Directors will monitor weather conditions throughout rainy or stormy days.
